Fairmount is a neighborhood in Center City city Philadelphia.
Its is bound by Girard Avenue to the north, Spring Garden Street to the south, Broad Street to the west, and The Schuylkill River to the east.
Fairmount is home to the Eastern State Penitentiary which has become a tourist attraction for the neighborhood.
Tours of this historic 1829 facility, now abandoned, are offered. It is also annually converted into a haunted house during the Halloween season.
Fairmount is just north of the Philadelphia Museum of Art (home of the famous “Rocky Steps”).
Fairmount Avenue is lined with bars, restaurants, and coffee shops, making this neighborhood a great place for nightlife.
