Brewerytown is a neighborhood in the North West Philadelphia, bordering Fairmount and Strawberry Mansion.
Brewerytown runs approximately between the Schuylkill River's eastern bank and 25th Street, bounded by Cecil B. Moore Avenue to the north and Parrish Street to the south.
In the late 19th and early 20th century, the Schuylkill river was host to many breweries, resulting in the naming of this are as Brewerytown.
At its peak, there were roughly 700 breweries operated across Philadelphia, many in very close vicinity of Brewerytown. Eventually Prohibition in the United States cause most breweries to move to the Midwest.
